Here’s what you can do in the Louisville area this week: 

Top October 2022 events 

WIGS! Play Louisville, 1101 E. Washington St., 6-9 p.m. Thursday. Guest are invited to wear a wig and enjoy a night of comedy, drag, live music, and tasty treats. The Urban Bourbon Half Marathon. Starts and finishes along Main St., 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday. The Urban Bourbon Half Marathon is presented by Jim Beam and celebrates Louisville’s river heritage. The race finishes at the entrance of Fourth Street Live! – the home of the Urban Bourbon Bash after party with the Louisville Crashers, bourbon tastings, craft beer, burgoo and pizza. Runners begin the 13.1 mile trek starting at 2nd St., and Main St., during the Urban Bourbon Half Marathon.

Outdoor Escape Games. The owners of Danger Run one of the longest operating Halloween attractions in the region presents two scavenger-style hunts outdoor escape games played in your car or on foot. Operation Mindfall and Magic Portal at Pope Lick Park, 4000 S. Pope Lick Road, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through October. The games are played in groups of two to six. Players will be provided a GPS-enabled device to find puzzle locations throughout the park.   • Operation Mindfall: Teams are given classified information about a company behind top-secret research that, if successful, will give them the power to control the human mind. In 120-minutes time they will activate the project and gain control of the world. Under the code name Operation Mindfall, your team must find and destroy the research.
  • Magic Portal: Teams steps into a world of trolls and mythical beasts, separated from mankind by magic portals, each guarded by a goblin. One of these goblins fell into a deep sleep and his portal malfunctioned, allowing mystical creatures to escape. To fix the portal, you must collect three magic crystals. You have 120-minutes to find the crystals, close the portal and return the creatures to their rightful home.
"Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories," by Kelly Ripa.

Festivals in Louisville in October 2022

Charlie Bond, a "super fan" of the New Albany Bulldogs, gets his face painted with NA by Brenda Brumett on Thursday afternoon at the Harvest Homecoming in its 52nd year. Last year's Harvest Homecoming was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Oct. 7, 2021

Butchertown’s PorktoberFest. Cooper & Kings Distillery, 1111 E. Washington St., 5-10 p.m. Friday. Pork-inspired culinary competition featuring restaurants, chefs, artisans, and specialty purveyors. Guests can sample pork-themed dishes and drinks from the featured restaurants by purchasing tasting tickets for $2 each. Also craft beer, cocktails and live music.

  • A panel of judges will choose a winner for the following categories: best pork dish, best vegetarian, most creative, and best dessert. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winner of each of the four categories. Full meals may also be sold and priced at the restaurant’s discretion. Proceeds from Porktoberfest benefit community development and preservation of the Butchertown neighborhood. Admission is free. More information is on Facebook.

La Grange Alley Loop Festival. Alley Loop, Corner of Walnut Ave. and Poplar Alley (The loop will connect the La Grange Railroad Museum on one end to the new Springs Park and the Oldham County History Museum on the other end), 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday. This is the grand reveal of murals, hardscape, lighting, and beautification of the first phase of the Alley Loop that was highlighted on HGTV’s Hometown Kickstart. Features Cirque acts, a 10-piece swing street band performance, food trucks, beer, wine, specialty drinks and artists for the Alley Loop murals will be on hand to share the inspiration for their designs. 2022 Belknap Fall Festival returns to the Douglass Loop Oct. 7 & 8

Belknap Fall Festival. Douglass Loop, the intersection of Dundee Road and Harvard Drive, 6-11 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday. Music, booths, activities for children and food trucks. Friday features music from Madman Across the Water and craft beers and seltzers from TEN20 craft brewery. Saturday features 40 artist booths, 30 business sponsors and non-profit organizations, and activities for children that include a petting zoo, face painting, pumpkin decorating and a balloon artist. Old Louisville Walking Tours. Leaves from the Old Louisville Visitor Center, Central Park, 1340 S. Fourth St., 11 a.m. Thursday-Saturday. These popular architectural and historical guided tours are operated by the Old Louisville Neighborhood. Louisville Ghost Walk Tour. Meet at the statue of Mr. Brown, on the 4th Street side of the Brown Hotel, 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Join Mr. Ghost Walker for a 90-minute walking tour of downtown Louisville’s most famous addresses. Hear stories told by author Robert Parker, of the Haunted Louisville series of books, telling the stories of ghosts from murder, mystery, death, restless spirits, and intrigue. A Little Tour Around the World with Old Bridge Cellars. Westport Whiskey & Wine, 1115 Herr Lane, 7 p.m. Thursday. The tasting with Rebecca Loewy from Old Bridge Cellars will take participants from Napa, to Beaujolais, France, then to Tasmania and back to home soil in Oregon. $10. Dance in Louisville October 2022

The Louisville Ballet is kicking off its 71st season by blending that classic story of Coppelia with a bit of historic Derby City charm. Robert Curran, Louisville Ballet’s artistic director, spent more than six months researching Louisville's Germantown neighborhood and its position in the city at the onset of World War I. This is a scene from the 2015 production of Coppelia.
