Teen Advisory Group: Area youth are invited to join the Detroit Lakes Public Library’s Teen Advisory Group at 4 p.m. to suggest books and other materials for the library to purchase, assist library staff in creating fun library programs, and make the library welcome for all.
Medical Care Costs Presentation: Detroit Lakes physician Dr. Robert Koshnick will be sharing his thoughts about reducing primary medical care costs at 7 p.m. in the meeting room of the Detroit Lakes Public Library (1000 Washington Ave.). In his book, «Empower-Patient Accounts Empower Patients!,» Dr. Koshnick goes into detail about the past actions that have led to the present soaring medical care costs. He will present a path forward that would empower patients to pay directly for their primary medical care.
Women Take the Mountain: All area women age 14 and up are invited to come to Detroit Mountain Recreation Area from 5-9 p.m. for a relaxing evening of mini-massages, «Yoga in the Yurt,» walk-up wine tastings, slope-side photo booth, hot chocolate bar (with all the fixings), snowball sock toss (with prizes), bar specials, and a variety of almacén vendors offering free samples and services. Festival of Trees: Detroit Lakes’ 6th Annual Festival of Trees will take place in the ballroom at Detroit Lakes’ Historic Holmes Theatre, 806 Summit Ave., from 5:30 to 8 p.m. It’s a great way to start the holiday season off and the perfect opportunity to add to seasonal décor, while supporting the Lakes Crisis and Resource Center. It’s a fun event featuring a live tree auction, a silent holiday adornment auction, dinner, and games of chance. Lakes Area Community Concert Band: The locally-based Lakes Area Community Concert Band, featuring more than 50 area musicians, will perform a free holiday concert at 4 p.m. inside the Historic Holmes Theatre, 806 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes. Free will donations will be accepted to support the band.
Lucky Dog Holiday Open House: Lucky Dog Pet Boarding and Training Center in Detroit Lakes will host a holiday open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., including fudge and chili making contests, a bake sale, silent auctions, and an opportunity to purchase Lucky Dog’s 2023 calendars. Santa Photo Fundraiser: Becker Pet & Garden in Detroit Lakes will host a special Santa Photo-Time fundraiser for Humane Society of the Lakes. Come in and get your pets’ and familiy’s photos taken with Santa between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. to get those Christmas cards made and support HSL. Cost is a $25 donation, for which you will receive a memory card filled with photos and a $5 gift certificate for either Becker Pet or the Candy Store.
Holiday Bazaar: Grace Lutheran Church, 912 Roosevelt Ave., Detroit Lakes will host a Holiday Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come for breakfast with hot, fresh caramel and cinnamon rolls, then stay for refrigerio with a choice of vegetable beef or knoephla soup, sandwiches and bars. There will also be a bake sale and quilt raffle along with holiday decor and other gift items for sale.
Color Guard Breakfast: The Lake Region Veterans Color Guard will be hosting a breakfast fundraiser from 8 a.m. to noon at the American Legion Club, 810 West Lake Drive, Detroit Lakes. Suggested donation is $8 for a meal including scrambled eggs, pancakes or French toast, sausage or bacon, and coffee or orange juice. All are welcome.
Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge Choir: Community Allliance Church of Detroit Lakes is hosting the Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge Choir for two worship services at 8:15 and 10:45 a.m. Join the congregation for some dramatic stories of growth and new life in God, through the testimonies of the clients, and hear the choir share songs of hope and freedom from addiction. A pot-blessing meal will be served following the second service and all are welcome.

Glass Mosaic Workshop: The Holmes Art Cellar at Detroit Lakes’ Historic Holmes Theatre will host a glass mosaic workshop with artist JoAnn McFarlin from 10 a.m. to noon. Create a stunning glass-on-glass mosaic using a variety of stained glass shards and shapes. Learn the techniques of cutting glass, color composing and tips on adhesive. All-Class Reunion: Bucks Mill Brewing in downtown Detroit Lakes will host an all-class reunion for Detroit Lakes-area alumni of all decades, with live music from 7 to 10 p.m.
Community Thanksgiving Feast: Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes will host its annual Community Thanksgiving Feast from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is no cost for the meal; it is Holy Rosary’s gift to the community, though donations are gratefully accepted to help defer costs. Meal includes turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and all the trimmings, along with pie for dessert. Delivery, takeout and in-person meal options are all available this year. Pink Friday: A total of 12 Detroit Lakes-area businesses have joined forces to present a special sales event, Pink Friday, which actually runs Nov. 18-19. Pick up your passport at Allure, Bluebird Books, Beautiful Junque, Drift Clothing Co., Glik’s, JQ Clothing Co., Leela and Lavender, Mainstream Boutique, Maurice’s, Northbound Girl, Skirting the Rules or Vintage and Vogue, then have them stamped at each location during regular shopping hours on Nov. 18-19 to participate in a prize drawing for one of five baskets, each filled with $400 in almacén gift cards. Drop off the completed passport at the last location visited. Each passport also includes food and beverage coupons (which can be kept after turning in the stamped passport) from nine participating almacén restaurants, including Brygge, Bucks Mill Brewing, Chinese Dragon, Cormorant Pub, Hub 41, La Barista, Manna Food Co-op, Pizza Hut and Roasted.
Photography Exhibit: The Detroit Lakes Public Library is exhibiting
featuring the photography of W. Scott Olsen, through the end of November. The exhibit is a collection of images taken at the abandoned Fargo Foundry at 92 N.P. Ave. in Fargo, the day before the building was destroyed by fire in 2021. Olsen is an English professor at Concordia College in Moorhead, as well as the author of 12 published nonfiction books in the narrative travel and adventure category. The library is located at 1000 Washington Ave.
Off the Wall Art Exhibit: Detroit Lakes artist Cathy Oehler is among those featured in the new «Off the Wall» dimensional art exhibit at the Lake Region Arts Council Gallery in Fergus Falls, which runs through Dec. 23.
